What Is Baptism?
There are many beliefs and traditions regarding baptism today, but it is important to remember to always base your beliefs on the Bible. In today’s post we will discuss what baptism is, who it’s for, and why we should do it.
Immersion
The biblical pattern of baptism is someone being immersed in water. In fact, the word “baptise” is a transliterated Greek word that means “to immerse” or “to submerge.”

Identification
The purpose of baptism is identification. When one is baptised they are saying that they have received Jesus as their Saviour. “Buried with him by baptism into death…” (Romans 6:4)
Imperatives
Before one can be baptised, they must be a Christian. To be a Christian is to trust in Jesus’ death as the payment for your sin. Baptism does not save anyone.

Importance
Just as a married person wears a wedding ring to signify being married, one who is baptised is identifying with Jesus as their Saviour. It is the first step of obedience as a new believer in Jesus.
